Method One:

Remove the virtual memory file to a no-system disk

It is well-known that to speed up the operation of the system, Windows provide the virtual memory mechanism. For Windows 7, it is defaulted to turn on this feature, and the virtual memory file is in the system disk. Such as a 2G memory computer, the size of the virtual memory file is 2G; we can remove it to another disk and leave some space for the system.

The setting processes:

First, right-click Computer at the desktop, select Properties;in the pop-up window, click Advanced System setting.

Second, in the new pop-up window, choose the first Setting button, enter the Performace option. And then choose Change button at the bottom of Advanced lab, enter the interface for setting virtual memory.

Third, uncheck the box before “Automatically manage paging file size for all drives” and then we can modify the virtual memory size and location. Choose system partrition at the disk list and choose System managed size (system automatically assign the size). Click the button Set. If there is a dialog box appear, select Ok on it.

Method Two:

Turn off the hibernation feature and save the memory size for the disk

Compress file and save 1 G space.

In Windows 7, there is a mysterious folder which is called winsxs. Its volume is likely to be 3G. There are a lot of things in it. You’d better not delete it. We can save 1G of space from this folder.

First, you need to add a new option for the right-click menu “the administrator to obtain ownership.” It can be handled with the optimization software called Vista Manager. In reference to the winsxs folder, just right click and select our new added, “The administrator to obtain ownership.” so that you can modify the properties of this folder. After those CMD pop-up windows disappear, right-click the folder winsxs and select properties, select Advanced…. button at the bottom. Check the box before “Compress contents to save disk space”.
